Peterhead Methodist Youth Church
The Youth Church is a new and exciting beginning for our young people and its aims are -
- the Christian development of young people
- to allow them the freedom to express their Christian faith
- to give an insight into different worship forms and styles
- to raise awareness of the needs of others.
The Youth Council will try to ensure the aims are met with success and their full remit is as follows -
- To oversee all young peoples groups to ensure that the Christian teaching is the start of a life in the Lord.
- To hold quarterly young peoples services in the back hall at 10am.
- To set up and administer Youth Alpha.
- To co-ordinate all resources and joint spending plans.
- To publicise young peoples activities within and outwith the church.
- To help seek leaders and helpers, as well as visiting speakers when necessary.
- To arbitrate in problems between the young people and the Church Council or Family Committee.
- To make available new technologies that the young people know and enjoy.
- To actively promote joint ventures between our youth groups and other groups in the church.
- To report to the Family Committee or Church Council as required.
If we are to succeed we need your prayers and your approval. Where will the young people of our church be this time next year? This is a very good question which the Youth Council are trying to answer. We would like to see the church full of young people and we are working very hard to achieve this. We still have only scratched the surface.
We have started our second Youth Alpha course and it is even more successful than the first, but it's where our problems have started. It is excellent to watch young people make a commitment to the Lord, but we need to nurture this and build from here. In the very near future we will need to have in place a system to bring on these people making that commitment. Another problem for our young Christians is that we have been unable to start our Youth Club as we have no one to lead it.
We would like to see our youth groups like the Sunday School and Boys' Brigade full to bursting with young people. It may be that we have to adjust these groups to fit in with the young people of today. The message of our Lord does not change but the presentation does. Our youth groups are holding steady and the Youth Council will try to ensure that the mechanism for growth is in place. We will try to ensure the latest technology is available and that training of staff is undertaken to maximise this technology for Christian development.
The simple aim of the Youth Council is that we have a church full of young people built on the experience and faith of older generations. All the sections of the church need each other, we are all parts of the same body. If the youth work is to continue we need more people to commit themselves to the cause. Our greatest prayer is that the Lord will send us more people to do His work among young people.
These undertakings are hard work for those involved but, if we are properly prepared, we will win more young people for the Lord.
We
want our
church to grow
by building it up with young people,
but it must also be a church that is built on
the experience and faith of the older generations.
