The Journey To Hope. Part Two

If you came straight here we would suggest you read about how it all started to get most benefit out of this part

The main building project we’ve done was the renovating of the toilets; this made a huge difference to the lives of both the children and the staff.
We’ve also helped out with the buying of electrical appliances that they’ve needed:- tumble drier, hoover etc. and also with strip lighting for the rooms and corridors.

Normally once a year we buy new bedding and clothes for the children along with any other small things that they need.

For the last few years we have also been providing them with money for the food project which has ensured that all the children receive 3 adequate and nutritious meals each day, which again has made a tremendous difference to them.

Hope is just waiting to find out if they have been successful in their application for a grant from the EU to do repairs to the building. All the windows are rotten and need replacing and a lot of the walls in the rooms need repaired too. If they get this grant they will go ahead with this work and stay in the building they are in but if they don’t get the grant they will have to look for new premises because there is just too much work needing to be done.

All being well and they get the grant our next big project will probably be to look at how we can help refurbish the kitchen, it is in a really bad way, most of the appliances don’t work and what works is very old.

We will keep you updated as to how this progresses.

It has been a privilege to see the children growing up and we’ve enjoyed every aspect of our trips. Last winter we had to say goodbye to a lot of the older children who were moving up to an orphanage for older children but they were replaced by lots of new faces so we can’t wait to get to know them all too.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to Hope can do so by making a cheque payable to:- Peterhead Methodist Church – Hope Account.
