Tell Me About Christmas Again!

What can I write about Christmas? I could talk about the wonder, excitement and gifts. I could talk of the wonderful letter Hannah (my six year old daughter) has just sent to Father Christmas with very precise details of all the presents she wants!  I could talk of angels, wise men, shepherds and a stable. Yet in reality although that is part of Christmas, it is the scenery!

In all the giving of gifts and excitement of Christmas have we lost the meaning of Christmas?  Have we lost sight of what it all means?

Jesus was born for a reason!

That reason (I suspect) God never dreamt would involve what we have made it. God saw what the outcome of the birth of Jesus had to be. Was a tear shed by God the Father when Jesus was born? His Son, His precious Son was going to begin a mission that would kill him and that is what God had planned. A plan that would see the rejection by his family and friends and then a violent murder.

So the purpose of Jesus was to do something about all the wrongs, the sin we had committed. So our response at Christmas should be one (rightly) of celebration, but also a pause for thought that we caused him to be born and to die.

So in a quiet moment this Christmas, reflect for a moment how God the Father felt when Jesus was born and then thank Him for his precious gift.

Have a very Happy Christmas, a time of love and thanksgiving for Jesus.
