CLAN Gathering 2008
by Doug Donaldson
CLAN Gathering 2008
We attended the CLAN Gathering 2008 at St Andrews between 19 and 25 July and received a great blessing. CLAN stands for Christians Linked Across the Nation and is run by the New Wine Church but is for all denominations and many attended. It is held in fields outside St Andrews and the main tent for the meetings is used at T in the Park before it comes to CLAN.
We were invited by friends from Fraserburgh who is a UCB representative and we agree to help them on the Saturday to hand out packs to the people attending. We meet them at 12 noon and were working in a pagoda tent at the main entrance and were inundated with folk coming and left the tent exhausted about 7pm. I was inside the tent filling the packs and Cath was outside handing them out and all she seemed to say was that she could not see the end of the line! We went to the café for something to drink and eat and a lad from Boddam was serving and later that week he said that one of his lasting memories from the week is seeing the four of us arrive in the café.
We were blessed by speakers from around the world and one of them was a pastor that I had heard about 40 years ago when I lived in California so it is a strange coincidence. All the speakers were speaking about the grace of God as that was the theme of the week and all were uplifting in their messages. We also had a great time of worship preceding each speaker and that was of great encouragement to one and all. One of the speakers was from the Lakeland revival church in Florida who has a vision for renewal breaking out in Scotland. I pray that this is in God’s will and that we have the heart for it!
One of the speakers said that as Christians we should live 1% in the past, 9% in the future and 90% in the here and now and we both thought that was very encouraging and worth sharing.
It is great that people from different fellowships can gather together and worship and learn and get uplift from each other.
One great thing for me was that I met two other retired bobbies that were with me here in Peterhead in 1974 – 1977 and it was good to get reacquainted with them and their wives, one runs a fellowship group in Aboyne with the local doctor and the other helps in an Aberdeen fellowship. Our prayers are for two others to be there next year to have a great reunion.
The next CLAN is in St Andrews on 18-24 July 2009 and we would encourage people to attend.
I have been led into a new ministry but I will fill you in later about this.
Finally, one thing that was said by speakers was that we are a forgiven people by God and have to learn to forgive people so that Christ may rule in this nation of Scotland.
